I have found so many ornaments and ribbons, etc that fit this, so it seemed like the way to go. And candy canes are a "sweet" decoration. This is a candy cane holder for our mantle. Got the idea from someone on Pinterest. Loved it, so I made one. It was so easy. Just hot glued some polka dot ribbon loops on the underside of a wide red ribbon. The wide red ribbon is what lays across the top of the mantle. Then insert the candy canes. I used leftover "3M Command Strips" to hold the wide ribbon in place. Just took about 20 minutes to complete!Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-58611806428462296882010-08-12T19:44:00.001-05:002010-08-12T19:44:05.425-05:00Been on Vacation!<p>Well dear bloggy friends, I have been on vacation. From blogging and literally a vacation! Not much of a vacation though, just down the road to Fort Worth for about 4 days while my hubby was at a convention. It was a great time! Had lunch at Billy Bob’s, roped a calf (not a real one though) and watched ladies that had a lot more energy than me take line dancing lessons. Ate at Razoo’s and Cowtown Diner at Sundance Square and they were delish! </p> <p>Well my blogging vacation wasn’t really due to being away, but more that my mind has been away. I have been focused on other things lately. Our oldest son is going through some really tough times right now. His wife left him in January and has just now told him that she does want to divorce. It has been a tough 6 months, not knowing and fearing the worst. On top of all of that, he lost his job in February and that was devastating. The extra time on his hands gave him too much time to worry and he fell into a depressed state. Bless his heart! My heart has been so heavy because of this! But PRAISE GOD! He is getting better. In the last 2 weeks he was able to get some depression medicine regulated (some of it would not work, but the doctor finally got a good combination) and this is the best part….He got a job!!! We are so thankful! The job and good medicine will help him get back on his feet. He is already SOOOO much better now. Please pray for him if you can. He is still struggling some with his situation. We are so hopeful that he will be better soon. But mostly we are praising God because he is in control and will bring us all through this much stronger than before.</p> <p>Love you all friends!</p> Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-42523048994525212802010-07-18T16:44:00.001-05:002010-07-18T16:44:15.276-05:00Texas Buttons<p>Here are some Texas buttons I made and any of my sweet friends are welcome to grab one for your blog!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5qPPJ4P6TPES5pvE4k5oEcL-l9ZauguFirZIeIczeWnsW76ZZxJtwhS2NbV7G3cqSy3JO2iYFV6odRN8tjut8iAL_7pJ5QL8MUuhzc4Gk2Xwn2OaO035hExCrjUus-zAJhs2tJiXiM5aQ/s1600-h/tx%20brown%20with%20rope%20bloggerette%5B2%5D.gif"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; Welcome to my blog. I can’t wait for the great fun we will have together. I have met soooo many nice people in the crafting blog world and hope to meet many more through our sorority.</p> <p>In my “rush” art project, I noticed that one of the sisters seemed a little annoyed. I could imagine that my Grandmother and her 3 sisters could have been in a similar picture like this. One of her sisters was named “Syble”, so I referenced her in this collage.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidas73jEV_zTK_Pfcc7ahIGc-isTX7yMJvIbg9EZ8ozUfcanjou-kVCWSAaDPInAfntvWMvn7teyL9PYXDml3yKvcVcynlVUk59KzVCEA-uFvkXHByh4IRpyF1xUyVKFp9SroFRg85kAPT/s1600-h/100_0281%5B13%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="100_0281" border="0" alt="100_0281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHwPbjC6ymPUzMWl-ED7ci8MCX01GSVUkFdZwbkmwoQgR36tc8QfJwNFUiGYBiYGDpBhgiHrbwdy9_9K4lj83gZBOdpDm7aQ9npLXUuLJHadRyts3qK-M5q3wW17j6kes794wtDKrJQRyf/?imgmax=800" width="447" height="340"></a> </p> <p>Here’s me with my art. My space is a place that I love to be in. It’s not fancy, but it is comfortable and fits me well. There is nothing in it that cost a lot of money (except the craft supplies-at least that’s what my husband says! Ha!), and most of the items have been collected through the years from relatives, or garage sales. I have a lot of sentimental items in my space which makes it even more special to me. It is a place that has room for my family to sit and visit, as well as my grandson and niece to play. It is my TV watching room, blogging space as well as my creative studio. And with it being next to our laundry room, it is even a space to fold clothes! </font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV25jJ2ZruIMK8_uHWwoAT6dQujlpQLU6DnqBEnicbHXX0FcDAfNo8WXMjpE2IS_4EU0FRyyfmF2cNWpvRPt2hf7kxpgH4gb_6wP4glMYMGCcGovZ4F2JVXk9IJ3qslb4vid8f_V-AZ8Pf/s1600-h/100_0217_(1)%5B6%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="100_0217_(1)" border="0" alt="100_0217_(1)" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4SySQ8nO1BUodmmtrJ84TBxPgr770ya_yHE59q37QO0aWE5HohYpSgxCkbcHz8YrMdfozfPxY_tIPT4exjRt2xFDVWXzEJ0jKSHPb2wDlOS8OvDbx8eMEo843OYjY3HS_hp4lXp9t-tKx/?imgmax=800" width="468" height="329"></a> </font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman">Come on over, relax and let me show you my space. </font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman"></font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman">In the corner, I have an old safe from my Grandmother Edwards. They are easy to transport over to my craft bar as needed and the top of this chest gives me another large workspace.</font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman"></font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman">Under the craft bar is a small sewing cabinet from Grandmother Edwards that nicely stores my calligraphy supplies.</font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNKojbuh5J0BHh16pAdr3-heQ3R9T4BQltehiWLTAtgJ_8BnKABxFn0eERke01Dnobta1aLmKqP4qbLpKoFaifU82T5y32zFl9gSJHHuwn8Ui0WjUTgJsQE6GFYdIAKTB6Kh1SxYImzJeU/s1600-h/100_0230_(1)%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="100_0230_(1)" border="0" alt="100_0230_(1)" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfYngqW_rh-zXveY8ZvPMQ8g4mIvIxpf2eCwY3gTEx5TOkK2bjl8GXs_gsD5uraa3TH2-5hXyfNDVM0CD1euUV571BIrTJj89vmt4x6gHqfs9oteaOmOL7QjyHS7LIZIbh-n2UJ1TKsLMm/?imgmax=800" width="367" height="276"></a> </font> <p><font size="4" face="Times New Roman">Moving around the room is my last space. We have been working on it for about 2 weeks until almost 9:00 PM every night. It is Dairy Festival time in our community and we have a parade featuring all the Dairy Festival pageant contestants. Each contestant was required to build a float for the parade. My friend’s daughter, Hayley, is a contestant. The rule was to use a single axle trailer. Our’s was about 10’ long by 5” wide. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJRA-2PTUDHM29srcX7YmcRP9nf7exhjc5pnjG01aw39NACUKwGsNtrS4579bGD5gmRDS__QgjdUdi3LqnIqeRzqnGY8zKEjR6XWHrDv7NFvV41N0oqL46cKBecORKgJTHawkTnreP9_cr/s1600-h/100_0158%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="100_0158" border="0" alt="100_0158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2cRkedWYNXJDMGWpPYfk70UEEP03NdGUlzJsLnrHUEWqPuPJeVBPMO6peVGIyrAUeoHNvKB7ClsfMZNPzGlS0XCzby4LzAlgjcygbkeFsC-DKyU26AE1MgbKbElZ5uBWWNK1jjUAef6Rj/?imgmax=800" width="496" height="374"></a></p> <p>The theme this year for the festival is “Red, White & Moo”. For the float we had a theme of “An All American Summer” and featured fireworks made from plywood, and an “All American Brand” Milk carton. There was a lot of tissue paper stuffed and glitter. Another friend made letters on sparkly paper with her Cricut. All of us working together turned out a pretty nice float. </p> <p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KIaXIECMsvFx-okkdNPxCLGxDZR72cMJT07oWjAh0x1xW6IrR84cdgTpvetIQUCFrdCe2WweM7sry42JeCIQSWrxtyFLJhyD8a8g5pZ7UA21T15xmi3gAFnbowAL-qSvw5sOPbLvauwR/s1600-h/100_0159%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="100_0159" border="0" alt="100_0159" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL7jAcZUDkyyIq-lTWFkOcdcdgeBiNmOf6pD0uGue4mBVf2lDLwK1EnD3190Owa-42hwjFhpk3_1R6b6gZZqVbm57FGFAKgbpKchj8O8N8VywvrLZEpeD548kmBtZCHQBkV8LSfI8KXa0p/?imgmax=800" width="481" height="361"></a></p> <p></p> <p>Hayley looked beautiful on the float!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBxs6TNkfK3jE1jfmucNIyku4JqvCipcU8Hyxt_ikLZZRUc0uyzOn9FFHVvJRy5xYG7cYvOv8dUlHSJc4hyphenhyphenIwRQZA_uLGbIcLwnc6zE2KAjH6ojbhLdLmHl8naVeNboFXBefteXc1MfdOl/s1600-h/100_0166%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="100_0166" border="0" alt="100_0166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuicuq_bUHSlgORW5aXnabqzMPNyZyPdDDZ2Ic38_2KOpkleRkbjcmYhBHtpL8vz7oDdD29u7m0N3ydTh6_kMzVz1LKa_SQhGZV1ZMkTYe9TMd3ST5FIgebtlSZG5VnbuaRp77dTL4nU1n/?imgmax=800" width="478" height="360"></a></p> <p> While working on the float was a lot of fun, well at least most of the time, I look forward to working on some smaller craft projects in the future! I’m getting ready for the <a href="//http://mydesertcottage.blogspot.com/2010/04/where-bloggers-create-ii.html">“Where Bloggers Create Blog Party”</a> and needed to spruce up my place, so I have been painting a little. A little is right. I haven’t been very enthused about it, so I found myself making excuses to avoid painting. I took Friday off from work and got started. First I “cut in” around a door, and about 3 feet of the baseboard. Then I wandered into the kitchen for some diet Coke. Came back, cut in the corner, took a sip of my soda and cut in about 2 feet of the baseboard. </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzo51jUb2ZuM66AFZCFHs0Qdb73A1M66ClLVL8rmJuoR7Mkkm7ptYeVCsi_KRD4y7p1awx5Wt8zz0QBR9ft6kfUDeOKOKK89Egi5PusjO3ZuYhHSzLlqvTfARdIM_5gy0394dwVJxM-3FJ/s1600-h/100_0143%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="100_0143" border="0" alt="100_0143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJKIMgQxIijnV0JUlcLer8G2pACTLpkYioeokzq6rEWNGgOuM-ZjSKrvOX3XJ2OIU7e5z7_lUx6IaIPxE4geTDBL3QvjfG10igPlCoocwZuhu17yZLOUJKn_SGpIoz0CwMxAPStGcE71pH/?imgmax=800" width="367" height="276"></a></p> <p>Went to the kitchen and got some chips to go with my drink, ate those, sipped my drink and cut in around a window. This went on for about 3 hours and I have only cut in about 1/2 of my room and gained 2 pounds! At this rate, I’ll be painting right up to the wire on June 19th!</p> <p>I’m going from a light color to a medium tone, but it is still going to take 2 coats (oh boy can’t wait!) . Anyway…my new bloggy friends are worth this extra effort. It’s like when your mother-in-law comes to visit and you give your house a good cleaning. I want things to look nice for all of you! Well, I better get back to painting….the brush is calling out to me! </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkq63MaKqzIk2gAIYeSo4-zIP5ZuyzpT9vvvTor1jCsG233vN63mcVhLvsDib8bjLov8KlaPYhkXo5Hw4L4fo0wmjMaTUhxg-v2wyjEcuP-BPhDx6XcctZJ-FsGhn_tjnfozqgMhXtv7_z/s1600-h/WhereBloggersCreate2button%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="WhereBloggersCreate2button" border="0" alt="WhereBloggersCreate2button" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDV42l2FC1t52oHakOGvFBm9y9IVGIAe-fXLXzd0XsZ90267cw2SAYotLUUWP9VVQ68xjKq2iZucvrJf95EGtAbLr9eI6hXKftyaMYD0A4fVlv9hMVjON93byMTt-labXMEEk5UvYASixW/?imgmax=800" width="189" height="252"></a></p> <p>Hope you will join me for the party and see the finished results! <br />
In my internet trekking I came across a "Prayer Pocketbook". It was made from an old coin purse and dressed up with lace and beads, I think. There was something about writing down your prayers and putting them in the purse to keep them in remembrance. Anyway...have any of you seen this? I can't remember where I saw it. Maybe someone's blog, or a crafting website. In cleaning out my <strike>hoard of stuff </strike> wonderful collections I came across a little coin purse and I would like to do something with it, if I can find my inspiration. If any of you have seen this on a website, please drop me a link. I would appreciate it!Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-55003093676024941212010-05-01T22:48:00.000-05:002010-05-01T22:48:01.739-05:00Jackpot at the garage sale todayLadies, I hit the jackpot at a garage sale I went to this morning. I pinched myself all the way to my car just to make sure it was really happening. Here are my goodies I scored, all for just $10! I thought it was a pretty good deal!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuX961i1zHwEuW1PWs73aHEsZnDsqz5QTe8LHjuxOk2tgHJ3gIhfe6eNwhD2yoI4qZ3S8aFud_tPG39x3ork834thVxdgbbt-ccgL7xUUTsITrbZ2K7eYNsS_n3CFLmX5l_d8BXJGC-KgM/s1600/100_0023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuX961i1zHwEuW1PWs73aHEsZnDsqz5QTe8LHjuxOk2tgHJ3gIhfe6eNwhD2yoI4qZ3S8aFud_tPG39x3ork834thVxdgbbt-ccgL7xUUTsITrbZ2K7eYNsS_n3CFLmX5l_d8BXJGC-KgM/s640/100_0023.JPG" tt="true" width="480" /></a></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The spoon collection was $5.00 and it includes several unique pieces. One of them has a little windmill on top that actually spins. The 2 frames with the beautiful girls inside were bought for the pretty little medalions. The fortune telling cards will be a unique item for a collage as will the Gerber Baby playing cards. There is an old glass knob and a button from 1963 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. All of the blogs I visit have such wonderful pictures that really pull you in to look at the blogs and correspond with their themes. Well last night I finished it and scanned it in and uploaded it. I asked my sweet husband what he thought about it. He commented, well I like the birds on it. The birds!, I exclaimed. Of all the things on the pic, the birds were the thing I didn't create. I got them from Wal-mart's craft section, Martha Stewart brand. I do agree that the birds are very cute (that's why I got them), but that's not the reaction I wanted from him. Oh well, at least he's honest! After being married to him for 31 years, I should have know not to ask him in the first place. Will I ever learn? (Smile.) Probably not!Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-80134924778791379062010-04-25T18:21:00.000-05:002010-04-25T18:21:58.449-05:00Trip to the Zoo!Recently I went to the Tyler Zoo. The flowers were beautiful, especially the azaleas and Sweet William (Pinks) that are in the pictures. With all the rain we've had this year, everything is really blooming out beautifully!<br />

It is called a "clematis" and they come in several colors. It took a while to take off, but the last 2 years has done quite well. I just throw some water its way every now and then! So it must be a pretty sturdy plant if I can grow it!Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-62365918321278030482010-04-19T21:19:00.001-05:002010-04-19T21:21:46.241-05:00Lovely Ladies, Lovely FlowersThank you sweet ladies in blog land for your wonderful inspiration, words of encouragement about my new blog and for taking the time to stop by and say "hi"! There goes my profit! I got a cute curio cabinet, including cobwebs and all for $5.00. I thought that was a great deal. With a little paint it will look like a million dollars!<br />

No! It has now been changed to a Saturday only sale as Friday will be the day that I can finally get things priced. Where does time go when you take a "home vacation" week? Tuesday and today (Wednesday) were spent at my son's tennis tournament. He did come in 4th place in District which is the best he has ever done. I am very proud of him! Tomorrow I am going with my oldest son and his son (my grandson :) ) to the zoo. That's where my vacation time has gone and now as I look back on it, I don't think I could have spent the week doing anything better!Beth A. @ Songbird Hillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05918285433800477965noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004995748273920362.post-8036650439588040332010-04-12T10:44:00.000-05:002010-04-12T10:44:14.957-05:00Still Organizing<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><div class="MsoNormal">This week I am on vacation from work.
